Social media users in Greece responded with anger to the news that only one member of parliament volunteered on Tuesday to donate blood for the victims of the deadly fire, east of Athens on Monday.
According to reports, the lone MP was Christos Mantas, the parliamentary representative of governing SYRIZA, who rushed to help the victims undergoing treatment in Athens’ hospitals.
By contrast, many employees at the Greek Parliament formed large queues to donate in a makeshift blood donation centre that was set up in the chamber.
Ordinary Greeks also responded with enthusiasm to the plea by the National Blood Donation Center.
