Greece is bracing for the cold front Medea which will bring very low temperatures throughout the country until at least the middle of next week.
The forecast of the National Observatory of Athens weather service meteo.gr on Thursday stated that cold masses of air that are currently over Central and Northern Europe are approaching Greece.
It said that from Saturday Medea will begin to affect the northern parts of Greece initially and the rest of the country afterward.
Freezing conditions will prevail over a large part of Greece and a total frost will occur in the central and northern parts.
Dense snow will fall over the greater part of Greece, even at very low altitudes, combined with strong northerly winds beginning on Sunday.
Prior to Medea’s arrival, the weather will deteriorate with rain and thunderstorms forecast from the afternoon and gale-force winds at sea.
Greek officials are meeting on Thursday to coordinate the efforts of the various agencies tasked with civil protection.
The meeting will be chaired by Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis and Deputy Civil Protection and Crises Management Minister Nikos Hardalias.
