The residents of Athens woke up on Thursday to an eerie phenomenon as the sky took on a brownish-red color.
It was a rare occurrence, leading many Athenians to photograph and share the spectacle on social media.
It did not last long, however, as a heavy storm followed, turning many roads into instant rivers.
According to the National Observatory of Athens, the cause of the sky discoloration was the arrival over the Greek capital of large quantities of dust and sand from Africa, aided by strong southwest winds.
