Greek meteorologists say a mini heatwave will hit the country starting on Friday with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit).
According to latest available forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr, the unusually high temperatures for the season are due to a combination of a barometric low in northwestern Europe with high pressures in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Meteorologist Giannis Kallianos, speaking to Proto Thema newspaper, estimated that temperatures will exceed 35 degrees Celsius, mainly in the central parts of the country and in the Peloponnese.
“We are talking about record values for October, impressive levels, because I have not seen such temperatures for years. All the prognostic data are in concurrence with this possibility,” he said.
