At least two thousand demonstrators took part in a march held in the Greek capital of Athens on Thursday evening to demonstrate their solidarity with migrants and refugees.

Protesters gathered in front of the University of Athens in the city center and shouted slogans criticizing the European Union’s refugee policy.

The demonstrators then walked to the Greek Parliament building in Syntagma Square.

During the march, they held banners saying “Open the borders,” “Greeks and foreigners can work together” and “Death to fascism.”

The nation of Turkey announced last week that it would no longer make any effort to stop migrants from reaching Europe. A campaign of disinformation appears to have been undertaken by the Turkish regime, falsely portraying to migrants that the Greek border was open.

Thousands have since flocked to Turkey’s Edirne province which borders Greece and Bulgaria to make their way to Europe. Buses have even been spotted on the Turkish frontier which are suspected of having transported migrants to the Greek border.
