Greek police on Thursday located and apprehended Yiannis Michalidis, an alleged member of an urban guerrilla group who rose to notoriety in 2011 after he tried to shoot at police with a high-powered bow-and-arrow during a protest rally at Syntagma Square in Athens.
Dubbed the “Syntagma Archer,” Michalidis was given a 13-year prison sentence in 2015 for his armed attack on members of the police force’s immediate response unit in Pefki, northern Athens.
Michalidis had escaped from the agricultural prison of Tyrintha in the Peloponnese in June of 2019 and had been on the lam ever since that time.
Police also arrested two other female suspects as part of the same Thursday operation, about whom no further information has been released.
