The Greek Coast Guard intervened in two separate maritime incidents in the Aegean Sea on Monday, rescuing migrants and refugees who had been trying to make their way to Greek shores.
A Greek Coast Guard patrol vessel located and rescued 49 foreign nationals who were in a dinghy in the sea north of the island of Ikaria and transported them to the port of Vathy on the Greek island of Samos.
The second incident occurred south of the island of Farmakonissi, when a Coast Guard vessel located a wooden boat with 72 migrants and refugees packed on board and took them to the docks at Farmakonissi.
