Greek tennis champion Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday came back from one set to love to beat defending champion Novak Djokovic 2-1 in the quarter finals of the Shanghai Masters.
Having lost the first set 3-6 to Djokovic, Tsitsipas fought back and won the remaining two sets 7-5, 6-3 to record another important win in his short career.
On the day he became the first Greek player to reach the ATP Finals owing to other results on Friday morning, the 20-year-old produced one of the performances of his career to defeat the defending champion in a brilliant match.
It means Tsitsipas has now beaten each of the sport’s big three this year, with previous victories over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal perhaps now topped by this fightback against the world number one.
His reward will be a clash with Daniil Medvedev, who kept his flawless quarter-finals streak alive with a 6-3 7-6 victory over Fabio Fognini.
