German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, revealed on Wednesday that Greece’s new Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, promised in a phone call that he would quickly implement the reform program, Reuters reports.
Speaking at a news conference with Finland’s Prime Minister, Merkel also said she agreed with euro zone finance ministers that no change was needed to Greece’s bailout program.
The German Chancellor extended an invitation to Mitsotakis to visit Berlin during a phone call on Tuesday morning to congratulate him on his victory in the elections.
Mitsotakis thanked her for the invitation, while the exact date of the visit – which will take place after the Greek parliament reconvenes on August 20 – is expected to be confirmed in the following days.
