Greece is aligned with the European Union’s stance regarding the Venezuelan crisis, Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos stated on Wednesday.
“In the Venezuelan crisis, Greece is aligned with Europe and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini,” he noted.
Katrougalos referred to Tuesday’s statements by Mogherini, who called for a solution only by peaceful means and elections, in order to avoid more bloodshed.
Earlier, Greece’s ruling SYRIZA party had issued a statement condemning “any anti-democratic intervention targeting the democratically-elected government in Venezuela.”
The leftist party also called for fresh presidential elections in the South American country.
“There has to be a democratic solution to the crisis through a dialogue between the government and the opposition,” the statement said.
