Greek riot police used tear gas on Monday evening, to disperse a large crowd of leftists demonstrating in Thessaloniki against the torching of an occupied building by ‘fascists’.
A crowd of around 500 people gathered outside the building, accusing the police of turning a blind eye to its torching on Sunday during the massive Macedonia rally.
Some in the crowd vandalized a parked car and shop windows. They also attempted to torch a police vehicle.
At around 3.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) on Sunday, “a group of 60-70 fascists attacked our building with Molotov cocktails, causing its arson,” left-wing group Libertatia said in a statement.
Libertatia had been occupying the building since 2008 when it was abandoned.
