A man died on Friday after falling from the archaeological site of the Acropolis in Athens.
The incident occurred at about 15:15 local time, when hundreds of visitors were on the Acropolis.
The man was pronounced dead after emergency services arrived at the scene.
Security guard Ioannis Mavrikopoulos was quoted by protothema.gr as saying that the man was around 45 years of age. He had been seen sitting on the perimeter wall with his legs hanging down. “He suddenly jumped, before we could stop him,” Mavrikopoulos said.
Other witnesses quoted by ifemerida.gr confirmed that it was most likely a suicide.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
