Insurance companies may be called to pay 12.3 million euros in compensations to residents of western Attica due to the damages suffered by the deadly floods that hit the area last November, the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies said on Wednesday.

The union completed its survey into the reported damages in property and cars, which it has been collecting from its members since the disaster.

The survey categorized damages by geographical area and type of asset damaged; houses, commercial risks and industrial hazards.

Its findings show that 177 damages were reported with the average damage amounting to 65,833 euros.

The worst hit area was Mandra, accounting for 62.1 pct of the damages reported. It is followed by Nea Peramos (17.5 pct), Elefsina (8.5 pct), Megara (7.9 pct) and Magoula (4 pct).

Twenty-seven insurance companies participated in the survey, accounting for 99 percent of the insurance premiums on property insurance.
